The Compulsory Student Unionism Fee (CSU Fee), requires all enrolled university students to pay a membership fee to their student union with no option to opt out. These funds are used to provide student services and support the union’s broader work, including advocacy and political campaigns.
The Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF) is a compulsory fee paid by students to the university. The university allocates this funding between student unions, other student-run bodies, and university-run student services (e.g. on-campus gyms or counselling). Government regulations prohibit SSAF funds from being used for academic purposes or political activities, and require that at least 40% of SSAF funding be directed to student-run organisations.
